MiniLit (Meeting Initial Needs in Literacy)
MiniLit is an early literacy intervention program that has been developed to provide teachers with a carefully sequenced and structured program of instruction for small groups of children who, after a year of initial instruction are struggling with the mechanics of learning to read. We are focussing on students in Year 1 and Year 2. The program includes the development of phonemic awareness, phonic word attack skills, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. LLI is a small group intervention program designed to support students who are struggling to meet their year-level literacy learning goals. The program provides explicit instruction in phonics, word work and comprehension.
MiniLit is a Tier 2 small group program up to four students per group within a Response to Intervention framework, but it can also be used on a one-to-one basis. MiniLit is available to schools only. MiniLit should be delivered times per week, for one hour per lesson.
